 The Salvation Army Serving
Blount County Relies on Volunteers
to Help Our Neighbors in Need.

Volunteers serve meals, staff our angel tree warehouse, assist with direct casework and a variety of other tasks. There is always something a reliable volunteer can do to make a difference at The Salvation Army.

Seasonal Service Opportunities

Red Kettle Campaign

Ring The Salvation Army bell at a kettle location for a couple of hours or a whole day! It’s a great way to bring Christmas cheer and raise funds to help our Blount County neighbors in need.

  • You can also Ring Your Way as part of the #RedKettleChallenge. The goal is to raise $1,000 per kettle. Interested? Let us know and we’ll share details and support.

  • Who can ring at a traditional kettle site?

    • Children – with their parents/chaperones

    • Families, Friends, Individuals

    • Colleagues, Clubmates, Churchgoers representing their workplace, civic association, church, sports team, etc.

  • What does it involve?

    • During your volunteer shift, encourage people to enjoy the holidays and make a donation.

    • You may share holiday spirit by singing Christmas songs, wearing festive attire, sharing good wishes and the like! It’s all up to you!

    • Ringing is fun with a date, a friend, a colleague – as well as on your own. You get to interact with people and brighten their day!

  • What do I have to do?

    • Contact us to schedule a date, time and location.

    • You can sign up for more than one opportunity!!!

    • Follow the specific instructions for your site.

    • Show up on time for your turn to ring and do your best!

Angel Tree

If your organization or business would like to sponsor an Angel Tree in 2020, contact us!

  • We thank All State Insurance, Altar’d State, Arconic, Maryville Kiwanis, Newell, Nisus, Precision Strip, Standard Aero, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for providing their employees and members the opportunity to donate an Angel this year.

  • We thank our community partners National Fitness Center, Starbucks or Vienna Coffeehouse for providing the public the opportunity to pick a tag from public Angel Trees!

  • We thank our volunteers for assisting in the warehouse and distribution day, including Clayton Homes/Vanderbilt, Fairview UMC, Farmers Insurance, Sycamore Tree UMC, Maryville Friends Church, Maryville Kiwanis, Maryville Schools Family Resource Center and National Fitness Center!

The Angel Tree program provides low-income families Christmas assistance in the form of new clothing and toys for children up to age 17 through the support of community donors.  We serve approximately 400 children a year through this program, as well as dozens of vulnerable adults.

United Way of Blount County coordinates holiday assistance and helps us to collaborate with other agencies and groups to ensure that families are served without duplication.

Year-Round Service Opportunities

We have opportunities to serve year-round, which includes serving meals, assisting with casework, events, and office tasks.  Volunteers seeking to work with children’s programs must complete additional interviews, training and background checks.

Please contact us for more information.
